I had one of these shower valves turn into a shit show about a year ago. Was trying to change the 2 springs and seats inside a Delta valve to correct a dripping tub spout. Ended up finding out that the whole valve body is attached to the wall with 3 little copper tubes, and when I loosened the packing nut, I twisted all 3 tubes and it leaked like a bastard when I got it back together. The bathroom on the other side was, incidentally, unfinished. I ended up getting a Moen and changing the valve out from behind. No need to demolish the tub surround.

There's gotta be a better way to design shower valves so they aren't so difficult to work on.

Yes putty is old school. Silicone easy way out but impossible if you have to replace and try and remove the old silicone. Love the videos. Fan from Dublin Ireland

Since this is a heating system, can you use lead solder to make the soldering easier?

I replaced both of my bathroom sink faucets last summer because they had gotten crusty. Got the new ones from Home Depot. It was the same model for both, but the aerator was able to be unscrewed and cleaned out. Glad I didn't buy one that needed a key, and now I know to check before buying one whenever I need another. They really want to reinvent the wheel now.
